Westmount Subdivision

The Westmount Subdivision is a Subdivision in the Community of Halifax, Nova Scotia in the Halifax Regional Municipality.

History

In 1931 the Halifax Municipal Airport was built . Pan American Airways operated at the airport running a route between Halifax and Boston till the outbreak of World War II when the airport was closed and operations shifted to Shearwater. During the World War 2 military supplies were stored on the field.

After the war the Canadian Army turned over the land to the then City of Halifax .In March 1948 construction began on the Westmount Subdivision. 305 units were made and there were only 4 designs. The first chance given to buy the homes were to World War II veterans. Saunders Park was created from part of the former municipal airport land .The park was named after Wing Commander Donald W. Saunders who was part of the development of aviation in Halifax for many years .
